State Farm Ranks #1 in Survey
According to a survey conducted in Oregon by the NATA (northwest automotive trades association), State Farm leads as the preferred insurer by collision repair shops. The survey was taken by 650 shops throughout the state and was based on each companies policies, attitutes,payment practices and dedication to quality repairs and customer satisfaction. State Farm, Oregon Mutual & North Pacific hold the top spots while starting from the bottom of the list you will find Progressive, Allstate, Safeco, Farmers, Esurance, Nationwide, GEICO. It seems the autobody quiz section is showing no sign of slowing down with over 200 attempts this past weekend. If anyone has any ideas for questions (autobody or painting/refinish) please contact admin. Mitchell international to merge with CCC Information services. The two major providers of estimating and business management software have joined forces. The combined enterprise will be known as CCC-Mitchell Inc. Alex Sun, currently CEO of mitchell suggests that the two seperate systems will gradually move towards one platform.
Tougher VIN Tampering Laws are underway in the Canadian legal system in an effort to discourage auto theft & assosiated criminal organizations. Anyone caught removing or modifying a VIN tag faces a penalty of up to 5 years in prision and/or a $2000 fine. Up until now their were no laws preventing VIN tampering. Another modification to the system includes changing how auto theft criminals are prosecuted. The law used to prosecute criminals convicted of auto theft as a property crime, Auto theft will now carry its own penalty.
Waterborne Regulations Expected to Extend, thats the word coming from Jim Quick (executive director of Canadian Paint & Coatings Association). Jim insists that the auto body regulations are still very much underway, however it just might take a bit longer then originally anticipated. The CPCA is anticipating a one-year extension of the revised date of January 1, 2010. The CPCA estimates the conversion will cost a total of $200 million across Canada. Shops will be spending $75 million on training, $25 million on movable refinish equipment (guns,washers,dryers), $75 on stationary refinish equipment (booths, mixing rooms) & $25 million on paint replacement.
PPG/Keystone partnership established, PPG & Keystone have recently announced their decision to provide customers on the PPG certified first network with preferred access to all of Keystones products & services. Keystone whom was recently acquired by LKQ Corp (a major American automotive recycling company), says they believes that being able to provide customers with preferred access will be very beneficial to their business.
